Foundation Schools Open Day

Foundation Schools Open Day

Nearly 4,000 pupils and school teachers from over 70 primary schools in the North West attend Emirates Old Trafford on Friday 19th May for the Annual Schools Open Day.

The Schools Open Day, now in its fifth year, is part of the Lancashire Way project, which is a joint initiative between Lancashire Cricket, the Foundation and the Lancashire Cricket Board.

A specially-created Activity Zone has been created at Emirates Old Trafford which included an inflatable bowling game, a climbing wall, circus skills as well as remote controlled cars. The event was also being supported by the uniformed services with the Army, RAF, Police and Fire Service providing vehicles and activities for the children’s entertainment.

Pupils from St Dunstan’s RC in Moston and St Thomas CE in Oldham performed a Guard of Honour prior to the start of the morning session to cheer on captain Steven Croft and the rest of the team.

Teachers also had the opportunity to find out more information about the Foundations’ ‘Education Without Boundaries’ programme in the AJ Bell Players & Media Centre during the lunch interval.

The lunch break saw four schools including Green End from Burnage, Sacred Heart Catholic from Wythenshawe, St John with St Mark CE from Bury and All Saints CE from Stockport play Kwik Cricket on the outfield, led by the Lancashire Cricket Board.

Sandy Mitchell, Lancashire Cricket Foundation Director said: “This is our fifth Schools Open Day and we’re once again delighted how this year’s event went. It was great to see 4,000 young people enjoying the experience of First Class cricket at Emirates Old Trafford watching Lancashire County Cricket Club in an important fixture in the Specsavers County Championship against Yorkshire.

The feedback following this great event has blown us away. It was a fantastic event and everybody who participated and helped us, thoroughly enjoyed the day.
