He was named Wisden Cricketer of the Year in 1985. After half a dozen matches in the 1989 season, Simmons retired. He went on to become Chairman of Lancashire Cricket Club and also the Chairman of Cricket for the England and Wales Cricket Board.

The event will take place within The Point during the second day of the Specsavers County Championship against Hampshire at Emirates Old Trafford on Tuesday 26 June.
