Venue confirmed for Lancashire Knockout Cup Final

Ormskirk Cricket Club to host 2018 final

Lancashire Cricket is delighted to announce that this year’s Lancashire Knockout Cup Final will take place at Ormskirk Cricket Club on Sunday 2nd September, and that it will be sponsored by Heineken, the Club’s Official Beer and Cider Partner.

The 60-team tournament that clubs from the county have been competing for across the last 46 years, has now reached the last 16 stage, which takes place on Sunday 1st July.

There are some fantastic clashes in prospect as clubs aim to emulate last year’s joint winners Ormskirk CC and Lowerhouse CC, with the final 16 as follows:

John Murphy, the Lancashire Cricket Foundation’s Clubs and League Director, said: “This competition is the pinnacle for all club cricketers in our area. To be part of the team that beats the best of the best and is awarded the trophy is every club player’s dream.

“The recent restructure of Lancashire Cricket, following the merger of the Lancashire Cricket Board and the Foundation, presents us with greater opportunities to enhance the competition and make it an even better spectacle going forward.

“We are all delighted that Heineken have decided to partner with one of the country’s leading club tournaments. As well as their involvement at Emirates Old Trafford, they support and provide services to many League clubs not just in the North West, but also nationwide.”

Sunday 9th September will be the reserve date for the final, again to be hosted by Ormskirk CC if required.

It is not possible for the final to be held at Emirates Old Trafford in 2018, as the outfield will see a significant six-figure investment, and major work will be taking place at the end of the 2018 season, ahead of 2019 where the ground will host an Ashes Test along with six ICC Cricket World Cup fixtures in what will be one of the biggest years in the Club’s history.
