#WomensCricketMonth: Liverpool Ladies

#WomensCricketMonth: Liverpool Ladies

Throughout September, we're celebrating #WomensCricketMonth by profiling a series of clubs across Lancashire who are currently hosting women's and girls' cricket activity... next up, it's Liverpool Cricket Club

Liverpool Ladies at Liverpool Cricket Club

Current women's and girls' offering at your club: As well as the women's section, the club also have training and teams all the way from All Stars Cricket (aged 5 +), Softball Under 9 and Under 11, to Hardball Under 13 and Under 15. They have a thriving adults section which has 1st XI 2nd XI and two 3rd XIs (Saturday and Sunday). The club's most recent addition is a ‘Back to cricket’ social team mainly consisting of Dads from the kids section!

Established women's and girls' set-up since: The women's team was formed in 2018 when a few of the Mums and other relatives from the juniors section decided to enter the Prosecco (now Softball) tournament. They had so much fun, and did much better than expected (getting to the semi-final) that the club thought they would carry on and do some training! They were later joined by other ‘non-mum’ players who had heard about the team on social media

Key people involved with women's and girls' cricket: Captain Alex has cricket in her blood, with both her dad and brother also playing at the club. She’s a supportive and feisty skipper who always makes sure every player gets to have a go and she’s the first to the bar when the fun starts! Coaches Andy and Adam (a father and son team) are also key to the team. They’ve helped the section massively this past year. They come along to watch the side play all over Merseyside as well as giving up their time to coach on a Sunday morning in summer, and Friday night in winter

Goals for the future: This season Liverpool Ladies have upped their training, with the addition of two coaches dedicated to the section. They’ve encouraged players to take the brave leap into their first Hardball tournament. Following a really successful taster session, the club have also got a girls training session starting in October. So in five years time, they would like to have as many women and girls signed up to play as the boys have now

How to get in touch and give cricket a go?: You can find Liverpool Ladies on Instagram @liverpoolccladies and Facebook (Liverpool Cricket Club Ladies). They'll be starting winter nets and training at Liverpool College on Friday evenings
