2022 Lancashire Knockout Cup Set to Begin
The 2022 Lancashire Knockout Cup will get underway this weekend, with 2021 champions Ormskirk in action against Knight Riders.
The reigning champions will be looking for their fifth title overall, and their fourth in just eight years.
The competition, which dates back to 1972, will once again include 32 teams from ten different leagues.
Gary Knight, who captained the West Lancashire side to glory last year is hoping his side can return to Emirates Old Trafford for the final this time around, ‘Playing at Emirates Old Trafford was an unbelievable experience, the staff really looked after us and made it a memorable day for both teams.’
The draw which was made by Director of Cricket Mark Chilton and first team player George Balderson, threw up some intriguing ties, including a clash between the 1978 winners Little Lever and Roe Green.
There’s also an all-Ribblesdale League clash between Feniscowles and Read while Darwen will play against Walsden in an all-Lancashire League encounter.
The tie of the round though sees Liverpool Competition league winners Northern travel to Northern Premier League winners and eight-time champions, Blackpool.
John Murphy, Clubs and Leagues Director for the Lancashire Cricket Foundation, said, ‘This competition is the pinnacle for all club cricketers in our county and we are delighted to welcome the final back to Emirates Old Trafford once again. We are already looking forward to this showpiece event in September.’
Round 1 of the 2022 Lancashire Knockout Cup will take place on Sunday the 22nd of May.
