Over 30 Primary Schools took part in a Primary Schools Cricket Competition today at three different venues in and around Bolton.
Westhoughton Cricket Club, Egerton Cricket Club along with Deane and Derby CC all played host to the competition with several local schools involved, including Lane Primary School, St Matthew's CE Primary School, Mytham Primary School, SS Simon and Jude CE Primary School, St Michael's C Of E Primary School and The Olive School.
In conjunction with The Lancashire Cricket Foundation, the knock-out competition was played in glorious sunshine with a load of youngsters all enjoying the action.
Mark Cookson, Cricket Development Officer for the Lancashire Cricket Foundation was full of praise for the competition and said, ‘This is great opportunity to build on the delivery we do in local schools, giving the children an insight to what it looks like to be in and around a cricket club. Hopefully the tournament can encourage them to make the transition from schools to a club.’
Meanwhile, Brian Richardson who is a School Games Organiser was very pleased with how the day went and said, ‘It is fantastic to see so many children playing and hopefully they can continue their cricket journey. We are always really busy over the summer and luckily the sunshine is out too.’
