County Age Group – u11s & u12s – 2024 Season Review

After a comprehensive winter training programme at Emirates Old Trafford, both the county boys u11s & u12s squads were in good shape heading into the season.

However, all the wet weather around during the early part of the season hampered both squads in gaining momentum, as fixtures became sporadic.

Once things turned drier, fixtures came thick and fast and both squads were able to put into practice everything they had been working on over the winter and during the early part of the season.

Overall, the u12s played 20 fixtures over 17 days of cricket, with a mixture of 14 longer format games and 6 x T20s. These included a 3-day trip to the annual Rugby School festival, organised by Warwickshire CCC.

The u11s had an exceptional season, remaining undefeated throughout. It was evident for all to see, that they grew as a squad together and there were some excellent team and individual performances. The final fixture tally was 15 days of cricket, playing 13 longer format games and 4 x T20s.

The culmination for the u11s squad, was winning the Tony Hemingway trophy, at Salesbury CC. This is the cup that is contested, on an annually basis, between Lancashire u11s & Yorkshire u11s.

Mark Cookson - Development Centre Manager commented

After a slow start to the season, due to all the wet weather we had. It was great for both squads to gain some momentum over the middle to end part of the season.

There were some good performances on show, from players from both age groups.

Also, it was great for the u11s to go the full season undefeated and finish with a victory against Yorkshire u11s and retain the Tony Hemingway trophy."

Many thanks go to all the coaches and managers for the time and effort they have put in, during 2024, to help the players develop their game.

Also, a massive thanks goes to all the families involved, for their continued dedication in ferrying the boys around the north of England to all the fixtures, as well as to all the clubs, umpires and scorers. Without who’s help these fixtures couldn’t take place.
