Foundation Funding Helps Greenfield CC Grow Thriving Girls’ Cricket Programme
Investment from the Lancashire Cricket Foundation, combined with the dedication of volunteers at Greenfield Cricket Club, has helped create one of the area's most successful girls' cricket programmes, providing new opportunities for young players and supporting the growth of the women's and girls' game across Lancashire.
Over the past two years, Greenfield CC has transformed its girls' cricket offer through the hard work of volunteer coach Craig Lees and Girls' Cricket Manager Angie Stewart, who have worked tirelessly to introduce cricket to local schools and encourage girls aged 8-11 to get involved in the sport.
A significant boost came in 2025 through Lancashire Cricket Foundation funding, which supported the delivery of the ECB Girls' Dynamos programme. The funding enabled the club to establish regular girls-only sessions, creating a welcoming and inclusive environment where young players could learn the game, develop their skills and build confidence alongside their peers.
The impact has been remarkable. What started as an ambition to provide more opportunities for girls has developed into a thriving programme with around 20 girls now regularly participating in cricket at the club.
Through consistent coaching, matchplay opportunities and festival cricket, players have flourished both on and off the field. Greenfield's Under-11 girls enjoyed an outstanding 2025 season, remaining unbeaten throughout the year, including indoor competitions, while two players earned selection to the Lancashire U12 pathway.
The club has also played an important role in developing the wider girls' game by hosting a successful regional girls' cricket festival, bringing together teams from across Lancashire and providing more opportunities for young players to experience the sport.
While the on-field achievements have been impressive, club volunteers believe the greatest success has been the positive impact on the girls themselves. Increased confidence, stronger friendships and a genuine love for cricket have helped create a sustainable pathway for participation and retention.
Greenfield CC's success demonstrates how targeted investment from the Lancashire Cricket Foundation, combined with passionate local volunteers, can make a lasting difference in communities and help inspire the next generation of female cricketers.
As the game continues to grow, Greenfield remains committed to providing opportunities for girls to play cricket and is keen to see further playing pathways developed to support players as they progress beyond the Under-11 age group.
