Three centuries, a stunning 275-run chase and a series of impressive all-round performances made for another memorable weekend of Thunder Cup action, with Lindow, Didsbury, Leigh and Leyland all securing victories. Despite finishing on the losing side, Ramsbottom's Amelia Buckley earned Player of the Round honours after producing a magnificent unbeaten 106, one of three centuries scored across an entertaining day of cricket..
Lindow CC Women beat Ramsbottom CC Women
Lindow CC Women produced the performance of the round as they successfully chased down 275 to defeat Ramsbottom by six wickets.
Ramsbottom looked to have posted a match-winning total after Amelia Buckley struck an unbeaten 106 and Scarlett Anderson added 84 in a superb second-wicket partnership. Their efforts helped Ramsbottom reach an imposing 274-4 from their 50 overs.
However, Lindow responded brilliantly. Openers Holly Topp and Heidi Cheadle dominated from the outset, sharing a magnificent opening partnership of 188. Cheadle fell just short of a century with an excellent 89, while Topp carried her bat for a superb unbeaten 105 to guide her side to victory with 17 balls to spare.
Useful contributions from Claire Ashworth (30) and Faye Smith (22) ensured Lindow completed one of the standout run chases of the season so far.
Didsbury CC Women beat Edgworth CC Women
Didsbury CC Women secured a 28-run victory over Edgworth after posting 210-7 from their 50 overs.
Thisumi Jayawarna top scored with 38, while Holly McCurrie added 35 and Sarah McCann contributed 25 as Didsbury built a competitive total. Edgworth's bowling effort was led by Eve Murray, who returned impressive figures of 2-20, while Emme Ferguson also claimed two wickets.
In reply, Edgworth found themselves under early pressure at 22-3 before Tanvee Kasaragod-Pallath led the recovery with a well-made 41. Umaiza Basharat added 12 as the hosts fought back, but regular wickets prevented them from building the partnerships required to challenge Didsbury's total.
The visitors ultimately closed out the game to secure an important victory in Group 2.
Leigh CC Women beat Sefton Park CC Women
Leigh CC Women produced a dominant all-round display to defeat Sefton Park by nine wickets.
Batting first, Sefton Park were restricted to 93-9 from 30.5 overs. April Jones (17), Poppy Smith (16) and Grace Manek (11) were the main contributors, but Leigh's disciplined bowling attack never allowed the innings to gain momentum. Lilly Stobbs and Olivia McCusker both claimed three wickets, with valuable support coming from Freya Walker, Ellie Chambers and Sophie Heaton.
The chase proved straightforward for Leigh. After losing Aimee Latham early, captain Olivia McCusker (31*) and Sophie Heaton (42*) shared an unbroken partnership to guide their side to 95-1 in just 21 overs and complete a comfortable victory.
Leyland CC Women beat Stockport Georgians CC Women
Leyland CC Women recovered from a difficult start to record a hard-fought 19-run victory over Stockport Georgians.
The visitors were reduced to 3-2 early in their innings before Katie Poole and Hannah Snape combined to turn the game in Leyland's favour. Poole made an excellent 66, while Snape struck a superb 74 from just 67 deliveries to help Leyland reach 218 all out.
Stockport Georgians responded strongly, with captain Skye Thomas making 56 and Hannah Wilke adding 51 to keep the chase alive throughout the innings. Emily Thomas also contributed 27 as the hosts remained in contention.
However, Leyland continued to take wickets at crucial moments. Emma Duerden led the way with 3-22, while Sarah Brown and Olivia Cunliffe both claimed two wickets as Stockport Georgians were eventually bowled out for 199, handing Leyland a deserved victory.
