Get Set Weekend 2024, powered by The Cricket Collective, is live for registrations! Sign up now for a chance to win Jewson store credit and receive a Marketing Resource pack ahead of the weekend.

This season we want to encourage clubs to use the Weekend not only to prepare their physical facilities and grounds but also to inspire new and existing volunteers to get involved at their local club. We have produced a digital booklet available online to support this, as well as an interactive editable Task List.

*Deadline for clubs to register and be entered into the prize draw and receive Resource Pack in post is 23:59 on 29 February 2024 (Clubs can continue to register after this date but will not be entered into prize draw and will receive Digital Packs).

Please join us for the second in our series of online officiating webinars, where this month’s subject is “Mental Fitness, Resilience and Making Decisions Under Pressure”, hosted by ECB Professional Umpire Team members James Middlebrook and Sue Redfern MBE.

They will be sharing their experiences and facilitating interactive scenarios around the decision-making framework for umpires and how to effectively communicate decisions on field. There’s also opportunity to ask James and Sue any other questions you may have.

We are providing more opportunities for individuals to join these by running two sessions on the following dates:

Marketing assets to help with umpire recruitment

The new ECB Umpire Course is fully live and we have already met and trained over 400 new umpires since November 2023 across the country.

Pre-Season Umpire Support

As we begin to look to the 2024 season, we are inviting the officiating community to come together to share good practice, discuss with peers and learn new things. As a catalyst to make this happen, the ECB, in partnership with the Association of Cricket Officials, are writing a series of CPD sessions for people to deliver. The sessions are no more than 90 minutes in length and can be delivered in a variety of settings to best suit the local area.

Topics will include areas such as, Ground, Weather and Light; Managing Player Relationships, as well as Positioning and Movement. These can be delivered through local ACO’s, leagues and if you would like to, County Cricket Boards. The first sessions will be circulated at the end of January 2024.

Safe Hands Guidance and new Club Safeguarding Policy Statement

The Safeguarding Team have recently reviewed and updated the Safe Hands Policy as well as Safeguarding Guidance and Templates for the game.

We are now asking recreational clubs to complete a Safeguarding Policy Statement. We have designed a template which we hope will reduce the workload for our volunteer Club Safeguarding Officers and importantly ensure safeguarding consistency across the game.

The updated policy, guidance and templates can be found on the ECB website.
