Greater Manchester Combined Authority
Inspiring Generations: A Cricket Strategy for Greater Manchester
The games organisers Lancashire Cricket, Cheshire Cricket Board, the England and Wales Cricket Board and Chance to Shine have partnered with the Greater Manchester Combined Authority and the ten local councils with an ambition to create and deliver a 10-Point Action Plan for Cricket in Greater Manchester.
Together we have created a plan to deliver 30 projects renovating grassroots cricket clubs in 10 priority areas across Greater Manchester between June 2022-October 2024 to use cricket to improve young people’s lives and create stronger, healthier communities in Greater Manchester.
All of this presents a huge opportunity for the city region to build on the legacy of the Men’s World Cup winning team and harness the power of cricket to transform the lives of the people of Greater Manchester and inspire a generation to take up the game.

CELEBRATE OUR SPORTING INNOVATION We will use cricket to promote Greater Manchester as the UK’s home of sport and a centre of cultural and sporting innovation
Partnerships
Our Action Plan has been developed, and will be delivered, in collaboration across local and national partners who are committed to ensuring the long-term success of the plan. By working in partnership, we can leverage the expertise, resources and influence of our organisations to successfully deliver the plan. GMCA, in partnership with the ten local authorities, will seek to match fund investments made by Lancashire Cricket, Chance to Shine and ECB into the Action Plan. The partnership will be led by the following cricketing, political and sporting organisations who will oversee the delivery of the plan.
In addition, the plan will involve partnering with a range of other local sporting and educational bodies. For example, The Dean Trust, a local set of academy schools, will promote and support the delivery of the schools plans while Volunteer It Yourself, a national charity, will form part of our work to provide employability programmes to young people across the region. We would love to hear from local individuals and organisations who share in our vision and believe they could support the delivery or promotion of our Action Plan.
