Walk and Talk Wednesdays are a weekly opportunity to step away from your desk, stretch your legs, and connect with colleagues and members of the local community. Each week we meet outside Gate 1 on Talbot Road at 1pm, before setting off together for a 45-minute to one-hour walk.
The route varies and often takes us through local green spaces and landmarks, including Longford Park, Seymour Park, Media City and along the Manchester Canal.
Following the walk, everyone is invited to join us for tea, coffee and biscuits in Exec Box 4. This relaxed setting provides a chance to continue conversations, meet new people, and strengthen the sense of community between staff and local residents.
The walks are open to everyone, regardless of pace or ability. Whether you prefer a brisk stride or a more leisurely stroll, the group is about making time to be active, enjoy the outdoors, and connect with others. Many participants see it as not just a form of exercise, but also as an opportunity to recharge, build new friendships, and take a meaningful break in the middle of the week.
There are many health benefits to regular activity. Walking has been shown to help people live longer, reduce the risk of a wide range of health conditions, and support mental wellbeing. It is also recommended that adults aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate physical activity on most days.
Joining a lunchtime walk is an ideal way to contribute towards this target while also enjoying the social benefits of being part of a group.
Feedback from those who attend has been overwhelmingly positive. Participants describe the walk as fun, friendly and something they look forward to each week. Many say it has helped them meet new people, feel refreshed during a busy working day, and find a balance between physical and mental wellbeing.
One participant shared that, “I like attending the weekly walk because I get to meet new people, have a chat with them and it’s fun. It’s also good exercise, especially if you are limited in getting outdoors. The group is led by Kay, who is lovely and friendly, and I hardly ever miss it.” Others have noted the value of having time to pause in a supportive setting, with one saying, “I always feel refreshed after the walk – thank you again.”
Walk and Talk Wednesdays are about more than just walking. They are about creating space for connection, wellbeing and community. We welcome you to join us and experience the benefits for yourself.
