James Cutt, Leagues and Teams Manager said ‘We’ve been working with the Bengali Community for a number of years through some engagement work and getting to know some of the players. It’s our job to link them into Emirates Old Trafford and into Lancashire Cricket and help them to see what opportunities exist. The teams are made up from across the regions. It’s been loud and noisy and some great competitive cricket. Everyone looks like there enjoying their selves.’

The tournament which aspires to grow the game of cricket throughout different communities, Cutt also added ‘the opportunities are endless. We’d love to see a number of these players being linked in the player pathway through community or club cricket. We are also aware that a number of these guys will have kids and we want to get them playing whether it’s the All Stars programme or junior cricket’.

A majority of the players who took part in the tournament had never visited Emirates Old Trafford before.

Mahmudur Rahman Rubel who represented Hyde Boys who were beaten by Rochdale Lions in the semi-final thanked the club and the Lancashire Cricket Foundation for hosting the event. He mentioned ‘thankyou to Lancashire Cricket who gave us this opportunity and hopefully in the future we can have another opportunity.’

The BEAO community aims to grow participation in Cricket in the Bangladesh and Pakistani communities.

Humayun Islam, chief executive of BEAP said ‘It’s all about getting as many people in the community involved. There’s a number of teams that play within Yorkshire and Lancashire and were trying to get them involved in cricket as much as possible. It’s been fantastic to have this indoor tournament. Hopefully we can play in more tournaments like this’.
