Lancashire Cricket Foundation Statement: Recreational cricket in Oldham

The Lancashire Cricket Foundation has been working very closely with England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), Oldham Council, Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) and the Greater Manchester Cricket League (GMCL) over the last 24 hours to obtain full clarity of the impact of the recent developments in Oldham on recreational cricket.

Public health remains of paramount importance to everyone involved and is at the heart of decision making, but recreational cricket has proven capable of sensibly and safely returning since moving to the Stage 4 adapted gameplay, as part of the most recent Government guidelines, and we are working hard with Oldham Council to ensure that this progress can safely continue within the area.

We are fully supportive of the decision to cancel any junior cricket this evening for teams within the affected area and are grateful for the understanding and cooperation of our junior players, parents and volunteers, clubs, the GMCL and our colleagues in neighbouring counties where affected.

As soon as we have received certainty, clarity and confirmation from Oldham Council that recreational cricket is permitted to safely continue within the area we will communicate this with all involved. In the meantime, we urge the cricket community to continue to follow public health guidance.
