Walking Cricket programme to launch in September 2021
Lancashire Cricket Foundation is launching weekly Walking Cricket sessions at two venues in Greater Manchester from September 2021
This project has been made possible through funding from the National Lottery Awards for All.
Walking Cricket makes cricket accessible to older adults (men and women aged over 50) and individuals who are semi–retired or retired. It is an adaptation of the traditional game of cricket to suit those with less mobility and caters for different abilities.
The sessions are led by a trained coach and start with gentle ball skill exercises which build up into a game, followed by a chat with complimentary refreshments.
During each session, the group will have opportunities to score, umpire and play, meaning that each individual will learn new skills, whilst keeping both their mind and bodies active.
Walking Cricket has the potential to make a significant impact by allowing participants to build body strength, improve muscles, develop core stability and lose weight, as well as boosting self-confidence and self-esteem.
