Women's Big Cricket Month: Meet Lauren Burgess
Lauren Burgess
Women's and Girls' Cricket Development Officer
North Area – Blackpool, Chorley, Fylde, Lancaster, Preston, South Ribble and Wyre
About me: I am fortunate to have the best job in the world! Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with family, watching Portsmouth FC and playing cricket for Bare CC – lucky to play in the same team as my dad and fiancé. I also coach across a few clubs – Bare, Carnforth and Morecambe, supporting their juniors, girls' and women’s teams.
Existing Clubs in my area with Women's and Girls' sections: Blackpool CC, Carnforth CC, Fleetwood CC, Fulwood and Broughton CC, Grimsargh CC, Leyland CC, Lytham CC, Mawdesley CC, New Longton CC, Shireshead CC, St Annes CC and Torrisholme CC.
New Clubs / working towards: Bare CC, Garstang CC, Heysham CC, Morecambe CC, Penwortham CC and Silverdale CC.
News from my area: The Northern League, Palace Shield and Westmorland Leagues are working together to run a Softball and Super 8’s league for the coming season, in line with our current 40 over, T20 and junior leagues.
Delivered the Chance to Shine programme to over 25 primary schools this year which provides some children with their first experience of cricket and links nicely to the national programmes. Also, delivering three secondary school girls programmes across my area to support clubs growing girl’s teams. It’s great to see how many girls engage with this and attend extra curriculum and lead sessions for the younger year groups.
Favourite cricketer: Stuart Broad or Kate Cross
