#WomensCricketMonth: Darwen Towers

#WomensCricketMonth: Darwen Towers

Throughout September, we're celebrating #WomensCricketMonth by profiling a series of clubs across Lancashire who are currently hosting women's and girls' cricket activity... next, we take a look into Darwen Cricket Club

Darwen Towers based at Darwen Cricket Club

Current women's and girls' offering at your club: The club currently has two ladies teams playing Soft Ball Cricket. Their plans to start a female age-group set-up have been delayed by COVID

Established women's and girls' set-up since: It started as a bit of fun at a Soft Ball Cricket festival and has since progressed from a group of cricket mums to a competitive group of ladies.

After tasting success in the indoor league and winning it, the club felt like they could go from strength to strength! They have been around for three years now, improving each year, so much so that two ladies have represented Darwen, playing in the 3rd XI and making club history

Key people involved with women's and girls' cricket: Emma Lowe ladies captain and representative on the Executive Committee, she is also soon to be a Level Two coach and an all-round good egg.

Jo Cordingley is vice captain and her husband Nev is ladies team coach. Both are committed to improving ladies cricket and driving the team forward.

Goals for next season: To have both junior and senior teams. Darwen's club philosophy is to have fun, improve and they are dedicated to training more ladies into coaches

How to get in touch and give cricket a go: ? Check out their Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages plus the Darwen CC website - all players of any age and abilities are welcome!
