#WomensCricketMonth: Salesbury CC

#WomensCricketMonth: Salesbury CC

Throughout September, we're celebrating #WomensCricketMonth by profiling a series of clubs across Lancashire who are currently hosting women's and girls' cricket activity... next up, it's Salesbury Cricket Club

Salesbury Scarlets at Salesbury Cricket Club

Current women's and girls' offering at your club: They currently run two girls teams in the Thunder Hard Ball Leagues, one at U13 and one at U15. There has also been a close relationship with Ribble Valley Vipers since their formation, with several of the club's U15 girls and, so far, two U13 Lancashire Cricket squad members playing for their open-age team

Established women's and girls' set-up since: Salesbury girls came together for training sessions for the first time in 2014, playing occasional friendly matches as well as competitions and festivals (both on grass and indoors) arranged by LW&G CDG. The team first competed as the Scarlets in the inaugural Lancashire Thunder U12 League in 2015 and have been continuous members of Thunder leagues since then. The Scarlets have also participated in annual indoor competitions arranged by LW&G CDG, winning the U13 Trophy in 2017

Goals for the future: The key to long term future of the Scarlets is the Salesbury CC plan to extend and improve its clubhouse with particular focus on female changing, washroom and toilet facilities. This will facilitate a move into open age women and girls cricket. The pandemic has necessitated a postponement of these plans but they remain a firm part of the club’s Five Year Plan

In the short term the primary objective is to increase Scarlets membership by continuing to offer girls in the surrounding area opportunities to develop their skills, play competitive female cricket and, most importantly, enjoy themselves
