Old Xaverian's Project

A huge annual fundraising drive has helped a recreational cricket club in Liverpool achieve one of its development targets.

Old Xaverians Cricket Club, who play at St Francis Xavier’s College, in Woolton have cut the ribbon on a brand new three lane net facility at their home ground.

The net is part of their long term plans to grow their sections which included a rapidly developing Women & Girls section, ECB National Programmes and junior age group cricket.

The nets, which were installed this winter, were supported by an ECB County Grant, a local parish fund, Liverpool City Council, SFX College and other locally supporters.

The fundraising was boosted hugely by club fundraisers, including many members being sponsored to run the Liverpool Half Marathon.

The nets now are ready to host a variety of Old Xaverians teams in pre-season and it’s hoped will help them recruit new playing members to the club. Through the flourishing partnership, SFX College is also hosted Lancashire Cricket Foundation sessions with young players as the increase in cricket activity at the venue increases.

Lancashire Cricket Foundation have been delighted to work with the club on this project and we would like to wish them every success moving forward. Locally the ECB County Grant scheme has also support new non-turf cricket pitches at Sefton Park CC and Liverpool CC – both projects are hopefully to offer more training and playing opportunities to women and girls in the community.
