One Year of Community Pitch in Manchester Celebrated

The one-year anniversary of a new non-turf pitch in Manchester was celebrated this week.

Lancashire Cricket Foundation led an action packed cricket day at Cheetham Hill Sports Club with 45 families taking part in skill-based stations and matches.

The pitch has led to a huge spike in cricket activity in the area – with activity at the ground now including Chance to Shine Street, Last Man Stands, GMACL fixtures, Lancashire Lions VI games, GMACL fixtures and other cricket activation.

The fun day on Monday July 22nd included many families from football backgrounds and KP Snacks, the Official Team Partner of The Hundred, teamed up with England Lionesses star Lauren Hemp to try to convert them to cricket. Lancashire Cricket Foundation coaches ran the event and involved Lauren in the games alongside Ellie Threlkeld, Lauren Filer & Beth Mooney of Manchester Originals.

Lauren Hemp, England and Manchester City winger, said: “I grew up playing cricket every summer and had to make a tough choice to pursue professional football or cricket when I was 16. I have always loved this sport, so it’s amazing that KP Snacks is helping thousands of families access cricket pitches and removing the barriers to entry. It’s great to show these families that you don’t need lots of special equipment or fancy facilities to play cricket, you can just find an ‘Everyone In’ pitch near you, turn up with a bat and a ball and get started on your cricketing adventure!”

Ellie Threlkeld, England and Manchester Originals player, added: “The Hundred has already helped to make cricket more accessible to a whole new generation of fans, and now the ‘Everyone In’ campaign is encouraging those new fans to find
