Young Cricketers Shine at Emirates Old Trafford with Bowling Masterclass
Twenty-two young cricketers from the Chance to Shine Street programme across Lancashire recently took part in an exciting fast-bowling masterclass at Emirates Old Trafford. The event was graced by Lancashire Cricket Club Captain, Keaton Jennings, who not only faced the young bowlers but also shared valuable tips to help elevate their game.
The two-hour session, organized in collaboration with Chance to Shine and Sure, featured coaching from the Lancashire Cricket Foundation coaches. The participants, aged 14-24, showcased their skills, having transitioned from Tapeball Cricket to hardball cricket. Keaton Jennings, batting with a Tapeball cricket bat, faced deliveries from the players who used a tennis ball wrapped in electrical tape – a staple of the Tapeball format.
Ammar Ashraf, Urban Cricket Manager at Lancashire Cricket Foundation, said: “For this event we focused very much on giving the young people and their families a great experience of a world class sports venue.
“From the moment they arrive we offered a warm welcome to Emirates Old Trafford, forwarded by an evening looking at high performance coaching and the environment of a professional cricketer.
“Chance to Shine Street is an important part of our community-based cricket offer and through weekly sessions, competitions and events like this we are able to offer high quality cricket experiences to children, young people and adults across Lancashire.”
“The session included some really useful guidance and information for the players from the coaches and Keaton. The group really showed everyone their ability and keenness to improve their bowling skillset. Huge credit should go to the our Chance to Shine Street coaches who work with these young people on a weekly basis at Street club across the county.”
Chance to Shine Street programmes run across the county for groups aged 8-12, 12-16 and 16-24. For more information on your local Street club e-mail gpennington@lancashirecricket.co.uk
