Bowling Masterclass

Former England and Lancashire bowler, Graham Onions put on a bowling masterclass at Emirates Old Trafford yesterday for three lucky children.

As well as the bowling tips, Jack Reid, Max foster (both aged 13) and Liam Murray (aged 16) also took part in catching drills.

There was also a special treat for the youngsters, with England and Lancashire batsman Keaton Jennings on hand to give some batting advice.

After the session, there was a tour around the facilities at Emirates Old Trafford, including the changing rooms and gym area, before the three lads each got their hands on a signed cricket bat.

Onions, who retired from the game a couple of years ago was Capped nine times at Test level and took 32 wickets. The Gateshead-born seamer also earned a place on the Lord’s honours board by taking 5/38 on debut against the West Indies in 2009 and was an Ashes winner in the same year.

Meanwhile Jennings, who has been at Emirates Old Trafford since 2017 and was famously the101st person to score a century on Test debut.

Head of Community Growth at Lancashire Cricket Foundation Sandy Mitchell was pleased to see the children enjoy the bowling masterclass and said, ‘A huge thank you to Karen, Jack and their family and friends for the support shown to the Foundation. In recognition of that support it was great to be able to invite them down to EOT to enjoy a 1 on 1 coaching masterclass with Graham Onions and Keaton Jennings.’

Sandy added, ‘Graham and Keaton put on a great session in the outdoor nets and gave the boys an experience they will hopefully never forget.’
