Game Changer of the Month - June
Congratulations to Bill Jenkinson, who has been awarded the Lancashire Cricket Foundation Game Changer of the Month for June.
Bill, who is 78, played for Great Eccleston CC before relocating to Southport and finding a new club at the age of 74. He has been a crucial side of the one team club playing regularly and taking wickets in the First Division.
He also recently wrote a song for the club ahead of their forthcoming Pochin Cup Final and regularly entertains the squad with his musical talents.
He has no plans to retire from the game just yet and Churchtown Cricket Club stated that Bill never misses a meeting and is always first to pay his subs, put the boundary flags out and welcome the opposition.
When not playing, ‘Jenko’ scores and travels across the region watching his team.
Lancashire Cricket Cricket Development Officer Greg Pennington nominated Bill and said, “It’s amazing to see Bill still playing the game he loves. He is still eager to perform at 79 years of age, and recently it’s been great to see him supporting players starting out.”
Pennington added, “The majority of his teammates are half a century younger, yet he is still mobile in the field and taking wickets with his dangerous off spin. People like Bill are a great benefit to small recreational cricket clubs, and I know Churchtown Cricket Club are very grateful for his efforts.”
The reward for winning the Lancashire Cricket Foundation Game Changer of the Month for May will see Bill win an engraved trophy, as well a complimentary one-night hotel stay at the Hilton Garden Inn on a domestic matchday including bed and breakfast. A £150 voucher to spend on something that the club needs will also be awarded.
Meanwhile, two others that are worthy of a mention are Nicola McLeod from Levenshulme High School and Adam Wilson of Bradshaw Cricket Club, who both deserve big ‘shout-out’s for their magnificent contributions last month.
McLeod has been pivotal within the school setting and a great example for the girls at the school and Wilson has become a junior coach and is thriving at Bradshaw Cricket Club.
