Glow in the Dark Cricket Lights Up Liverpool
To celebrate the launch of Wicketz Liverool, we were delighted to welcome pupils from St Christopher's Primary School to our brand-new Wicketz hub at Lifestyles Austin Rawlinson in Speake.
The event showcased our exciting new community cricket programme and introduced pupils to fun and inclusive ways to make cricket accessible for everyone.
Blessed with sunny September weather, 26 Year 5 pupils took part in a variety of engaging cricket drills before discovering how cricket can be adapted through table cricket, a format designed to ensure everyone can enjoy the game, regardless of ability.
The fun then moved indoors, where pupils got creative with UV face and body painting before experiencing the highlight of the day, glow-in-the-dark cricket!
Using UV reactive equipment, luminous clothing and an upbeat playlist, the session created an exciting, safe and inclusive environment where everyone could take part with confidence. Even the staff joined in, enjoying both the glowing paint and the games.
Eliesha Netherwood, Wicketz Development Officer commented:
"Using glow-in-the-dark cricket to showcase our programme provides an accessible and safe way for girls and boys to enjoy cricket without the nerves that can come with being watched while playing sport. It’s an effective way to break down barriers and encourage greater engagement in cricket.”
The Wicketz programme is a free community cricket initiative for young people aged 8–19, living in disadvantaged areas. Each hub offers a safe and welcoming space where participants can develop essential life skills, build stronger connections within their community, and unlock brighter futures through the power of sport.
We're excited to announce that two new Wicketz hubs will be launching in November, one for mixed participants aged 8–13, and another dedicated girls-only hub for the same age group.
