Lancashire Cricket Foundation Prepares Inclusive Programme to Mark Ramadan

Lancashire Cricket Foundation is preparing to mark the month of Ramadan with a programme of inclusive cricket activities across its communities.

Ahead of the holy month, many projects have delivered additional sessions to ensure young people do not miss out on their cricket. In Blackburn, for example, day-long indoor cricket festivals have taken place before activity slows or adapts during Ramadan, giving participants extended playing opportunities and valuable competitive experiences.

A key upcoming event is the ECB Cricket Cities Ramadan Cup, delivered as part of the England and Wales Cricket Board Cricket Cities programme. The competition will provide a respectful and inclusive environment for young players, with fixtures scheduled to reflect fasting commitments.

Community-based Iftars will also be hosted with local cricket groups across Burnage, Blackburn and Manchester, creating opportunities for families, players and volunteers to break their fast together. In Burnage, participants from the Chance to Shine Street programme will take part in a special after-school celebration. Young Leaders will help plan and deliver the event, while recognising those observing their first fast.

Following consultation with families, some weekly sessions will be paused, others adapted and some will continue as normal. Coaches have been provided with guidance on adjusting intensity, scheduling, hydration awareness and consideration of prayer times to ensure staff and participants feel supported throughout Ramadan.

Arsalan Khalid, Cricket Development Officer said:

"Ramadan is a time for reflection and togetherness. By delivering extra activity before the month and adapting our programmes during it, we’re ensuring young people stay connected to cricket while respecting their faith. These events are about community, leadership and inclusion.”

Lancashire Cricket Foundation wishes everyone observing a peaceful and blessed Ramadan. Ramadan Mubarak.
