Looking Back: Liverpool Girls MCC Foundation Hub 2024 – A Breakout Year That Inspired a New Generation

As we look ahead to another exciting year of MCC Foundation Hubs, we’re celebrating one of 2024’s standout success stories: the Liverpool Girls MCC Foundation Hub. Last year, the Hub became one of the most vibrant, fully subscribed and impactful programmes anywhere in the North-West—setting the standard for what girls’ cricket can achieve when opportunity meets ambition.

With every place filled and demand higher than ever, the 2024 Hub brought together a diverse group of girls aged 11–17, all coached by the team of Hope Anderson, Pip Roots and Greg Pennington. Their mission was simple: deliver free, high-quality cricket coaching in a fun, inclusive and confidence-building environment.

The result? One of the strongest and most memorable Hub programmes yet.

2024 Achievements

The Liverpool Girls Hub didn’t just create a team—it created momentum.

  • 1 player progressed to County Age Group cricket
  • 5 girls joined community clubs for the very first time
  • The squad played competitive fixtures across Lancashire, Yorkshire and North Wales

Every player developed both as a cricketer and as a person, and many began pathways that will shape their cricketing futures.

High-Quality Coaching

Each week in 2024, Hub participants enjoyed a wide variety of sessions, including:

  • Hard-ball batting, bowling and fielding
  • Indoor and outdoor nets
  • Game scenarios and tactical development
  • Confidence-building, teamwork and communication activities

Coach Hope Anderson summed up the experience perfectly: “The MCC Foundation hubs are a unique opportunity to receive a high level of coaching whilst having huge amounts of fun.
Our sessions included bowling, batting and fielding activities, as well as nets to help the girls get better week in week out. Teamwork and friendships were at the heart of everything we did, creating a strong morale both in training and when we progressed into competitive games.”

This positive, energetic environment became the backbone of the Hub’s success.

From Training Hall to Cricket Grounds Across the Region

After building strong foundations indoors, the 2024 squad took their learning onto the pitch, playing a range of friendly and development fixtures against:

  • Local teams across Merseyside and Lancashire
  • Yorkshire MCCF Hubs
  • A memorable touring fixture in North Wales

For many girls, this was their first experience of structured hard-ball cricket—and they embraced it brilliantly.

Pathways, Progression and Personal Growth

One of the standout achievements of 2024 was the number of girls who took their next cricketing step:

  • A player selected to the County Age Group pathway
  • Five girls joining local clubs
  • Many developing new skills, new friendships and new confidence

Coach Hope reflected on the impact: “Seeing the girls progress week in week out, not just as cricketers but as people, was incredibly rewarding. Their success in games and the opportunities they earned—like progression to CAG—came directly through the MCC Hub experience.”

Why Liverpool's 2024 Hub Was So Successful

1. A Brilliant Coaching Team Hope Anderson, Pip Roots and Greg Pennington combined technical expertise with encouragement, energy and genuine care.

2. Full Capacity and High Demand The Hub filled quickly in 2024, proving a growing appetite for girls’ cricket and the value of accessible, free programmes.

3. Commitment to Inclusion - No fees, no barriers just opportunity. The Hub welcomed participants from a wide range of schools and backgrounds.

4. A Pathway That Works - Structured winter coaching, summer match play and links to clubs and county systems gave girls a clear route forward.
