Young Cricketers Shine on Lancashire’s Pathway for All

This summer, 121 young players from Lancashire Cricket Foundation’s (LCF) Community Programmes proudly pulled on the red rose as part of the Pathway for All, showcasing the talent, diversity, and passion for cricket across the county.

It was a season brimming with excitement, energy, and unforgettable moments for the LCF Inter League squads. From nail-biting finishes to standout performances and plenty of smiles. The competition brought communities together and gave aspiring young players the chance to shine.

The Under-11, Under-13, and Under-15 boys squads enjoyed a busy summer, taking part in 12 Inter League fixtures as well as six friendly matches against a variety of opponents, including County Age Group teams and even touring international sides.

Now in its second year, the Pathway for All programme was created to ensure equitable opportunities for young people to progress in cricket, regardless of background or starting point. Players are nominated by LCF Community Coaches and Community Talent Champions, with referrals coming through programmes such as MCCF Hubs, Chance to Shine Street, the ACE Programme, Wicketz, and Chance to Shine Schools and Camps.

Jen Barden - Managing Director of Lancashire Cricket Foundation said "We are really proud of the progress and opportunities provided through the community programme Inter League. This programme is really important to provide vital peer to peer challenge and to showcase young cricketers talents, regardless of whether they are playing regularly at a club or not. Our community programmes are vast, our main focus on enjoyment and the love of cricket but for those who showcase talent above and beyond we are able to provide opportunity to integrate into the Inter League programme. This programme is a success because of the dedication of the teams running it, the support from the Leagues across Lancashire and the players and parents who value this opportunity. I look forward to seeing this programme continue to review and evolve."

Among the many highlights this season, two players from the Under-11 Inter League squad perfectly illustrate the impact of the initiative.

Yahya, from Blackburn, began his journey through the Chance to Shine Street programme and first caught the eye at the Regional Tapeball Finals in Bolton. Making his Inter League debut against Wigan Junior League, he impressed with a strong bowling display and added a composed 17 runs with the bat.

Meanwhile Isaac, from Manchester, was nominated by his Chance to Shine Street coaches despite having never played hardball cricket before. He rose to the challenge with confidence, making an immediate impression with his pace bowling and showing remarkable composure and potential in his very first hardball match for the Lancashire Cricket Foundation.

The Lancashire Cricket Pathway for All is breaking down barriers and opening doors for young people who may not have taken the traditional route into cricket. By connecting communities and creating new opportunities, it is proving that talent can thrive anywhere across the county.
