Lancashire win by 1 run
Yesterday the D40 squad travelled to Tring Park CC to take on The Lords Taverners, the game is now the annual reward for the team that wins the county championship
A few changes due to work commitments from last weeks team meant it was a different side that made the trip down on Saturday night before continuing Sunday morning, hoping to rub shoulders with several famous celebrities.
Lancashire won the toss and chose to bat on a hot Sunday afternoon.
Lancashire made a good start as Meskell going on the attack, unfortunately skipper Finneran found one come through a bit quick on him and could only see his shot go straight to mid wicket.
Meskell continued to find the gaps and with Dixon at the other end the pair pushed the total at a good rate both went on to reach their 50s before Meskell was caught and bowled for 75.
McIntyre joined Dixon and also found opportunity to find the boundary frequently.
Matty Tamburro and Tyler Preece rotated strike and added valuable runs at the end of the innings, as the red rose side closed on 233, a score that looked quite short of par but something to defend.
After a fantastic feed, the boys headed out determined to bring home the victory.
Dixon picked up a couple of quick wickets setting them on their way, but they to be pegged back by England PDs Will Flynn and former Zimbabwean international Gus Mackay.
The pair started to make light work of the target but did survive a few scares from the bowling of Hughes and O'Neill. Aaron was next to get a breakthrough as Mackay drove the ball to Preece at cover who repeated his heroics from the previous week.
A couple more wickets and Lancashire sensed they were back in the game. The fall of the 6th wicket brought drinks, the hosts being 199/6 with 12 overs to go. 30 runs and 4 wickets needed boys, battle for everything and victory is ours.
This quickly became 214/6 as Dixon was reintroduced from the far end, immediately he trapped Flynn lbw for an impressive 145, as The Lords Taverners pushed on to 228, 6 runs needed, 2 wickets remaining.
Ball 1 - Surprisingly Dixons next ball went loose down the leg side and raced away for 4 byes.
1 to tie, 2 to win
Ball 2 - dot ball
Ball 3 - WICKET - edged and taken cleanly by Foster
Ball 4 - WICKET - clean bowled
What a win, a superb result from a team that have got behind each other all season.
Jimmy picking up a 2nd Man of the Match award taking 7 wickets for 24 runs.
