Wicketz

Wicketz

Background to Wicketz

Wicketz provides free, year-round, weekly community cricket sessions and personal development workshops for young people aged 8-19 in communities where there are few opportunities to play the game regularly.

Using cricket as a tool for change, it improves young people’s physical and mental wellbeing, develops crucial life skills such as tolerance, respect, teamwork, and self-confidence, and contributes to improved future life prospects.

Further information

Wicketz is more than just weekly cricket sessions. Young people benefit from life skills workshops on topics important to them, and festivals and events where they can meet up with other Wicketz participants from around the country.

One example of this is our Unity of the Roses series. The fourth instalment of this brought young people from Lancashire and Yorkshire together to discuss pressing issues in their communities.

Photos and videos from other Wicketz events are available on our Facebook page here.

We regularly ask participants for feedback and to understand what Wicketz means to them. Click here for a video from one group.

Background to Wicketz

Wicketz was created and is coordinated nationally by The Lord’s Taverners, the UK’s leading youth cricket and disability sports charity dedicated to giving disadvantaged and disabled young people a sporting chance. There are 17 Wicketz projects in operation across the UK. Click here for the latest Impact Report.

The annual residential festivals bring together young people from across the UK in a celebration of Wicketz.  Two festivals were held in 2019, one for girls and one for boys.
