Table Cricket Competitions at Emirates Old Trafford

Table Cricket Competitions at Emirates Old Trafford

The Lancashire Cricket Foundation is the delivery partner for Table Cricket in the North West, and with funding from the Lord’s Taverners, have hosted two primary school competitions and a secondary school/college competition during November and December.

All of the competitions took place in the Trafford Indoor Centre at Emirates Old Trafford and the primary competitions were attended by over 70 pupils from six schools.

After two weeks of coaching, The Birches, Rodney House (both Manchester), Lisburne (Stockport) and Delamere (Trafford) competed on Tuesday 20 November. 40 pupils were present and the competition was a close one.

Heading into the last round of fixtures, both Lisburne and The Birches were in with a chance of winning, and in a close game which was befitting of a final, Lisburne claimed victory taking home the trophy for a second successive year.

The second stand-alone competition took place on Tuesday 4 December, with The Birches (Manchester) entering two teams. Delamere (Trafford), Hawthorns and Oakdale (both Tameside) also entered, with over 30 pupils attending.

The Birches managed to go one better this time around, taking the trophy home with maximum points and remaining undefeated throughout.

Following this, the annual secondary school/college competition was attended by almost 70 students last week. The teams were drawn into two groups of four, with the winners of both groups advancing to the final.

After three rounds of fixtures, Redwood (Rochdale) and St John Vianney (Trafford) were top of their tables and played out a tense final. SJV set an 92 to win, but it wasn’t enough as Redwood overtook the score in the last over to win by just five runs.

The Lancashire Cricket Foundation are indebted to the leaders from Myerscough College (Old Trafford) who umpired and scored the matches throughout the competition, with Lancashire first team player Rob Jones in attendance to present the awards alongside Lanky at the conclusion.
