Statement: Oldham, Blackburn & Pendle

An update on recreational cricket in areas facing stricter local lockdown measures as of midnight tonight (Saturday 22 August)

Lancashire Cricket Foundation (LCF) can issue the following update regarding COVID-19 restrictions in Oldham, and areas within Blackburn and Pendle.

As of midnight tonight (Saturday 22 August), the above named areas will see a tightening of restrictions to stem the spread of COVID-19.

The knock-on effect of recreational cricket is as follows:

Oldham

Written permission has been received from the Council to allow sports teams to continue until further notice providing they are following ECB and Public Health guidelines.

Further information on the situation will be issued next week and affected Clubs should keep an eye on the Lancashire Cricket Foundation website for further details.

Affected areas within Blackburn and Pendle

At midnight, new restrictions come into force for specific areas within Blackburn and Pendle that have now been placed into ‘Tier 3’ COVID-19 restrictions. Measures for Tier 3 areas include not meeting up with anybody from another household – indoor or outdoor – or using public transport for non-essential use.

For the purposes of recreational cricket any training, practice or fixtures within the affected Tier 3 area must be cancelled and LCF are grateful to League and Club executives who have acted swiftly in postponing matches thus far. These measures also relate to Lancashire Age Group activity within the areas.

These special measures will remain in place until further notice is issued.

For the avoidance of doubt, we have been advised the following areas within Blackburn and Pendle are classed as being in Tier 3:

Blackburn: Audley & Queen’s Park, Bastwell & Daisyfield, Billinge & Beardwood, Blackburn Central, Little Harwood & Whitebirk, Roe Lee, Shear Brow & Corporation Park and Wensley Fold.

Pendle: Whitefield, Walverden, Southfield, Bradley, Clover Hill, Brierfield and Marsden.

The new restrictions on recreational cricket do not apply to areas in Blackburn and Pendle currently assessed as Tier 1 or 2. Please refer to ongoing local Government & Council guidance with regards to which Tier your area falls into.

LCF recognises these are very challenging times for everybody involved and the co-operation of all within the game is greatly appreciated.

It is the responsibility of any person living in the areas of special local measures not to travel outside of the area to play cricket or to attend any training session whilst the restrictions remain in force.
